Director Smakiqi participates in a regional conference in Montenegro

Podgorica, December 22, 2016- Director General of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS), Ismail Smakiqi officially travelled to Montenegro where participates in a regional conference "Improving the system of admission, promotion, education and training of police officials in Montenegro ", which is being held in Podgorica. In the conference participants are the heads of educational institutions in the field of police from Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia. 


At the opening of the conference to the participants was addressed the representatives of the Montenegro institutions and international representatives. To the participants spoke Secretary of Ministry of Education of Montenegro Omer Mehmedovic, Director General of the Directorate for International Cooperation and European Integration at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Tanja Ostojiã, representative of the OSCE mission in Montenegro Vladimir Ragozin, assistant director of the Police Directorate of Montenegro Nikola Janjusevic and director of the Police Academy of Montenegro Rajko Pekovic. They spoke about the efforts that are being made to reform the police education in Montenegro and the importance of the participants from the region for a more successful reform. 


In his speech to the participants, the Director General of the Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, Ismail Smakiqi spoke about the education system in Kosovo, public safety in general and in particular for the police. He also spoke about the processes in which the Academy has passed, in particular the establishment of the Faculty of Public Safety, besides the on-going commitment to professional training for all public safety institutions in Kosovo. Director Smakiqi also spoke about joint efforts of the Academy, stakeholders and international partners in preparation first, then approval and finally the implementation of the Development Strategy and Action Plan 2014 - 2018 of KAPS. 


As a result of the approval of the Development Strategy and Action Plan of the Police Directorate of Montenegro for the period 2016 - 2020, during this year were held five roundtables aimed the education progress of the police officers in Montenegro. Therefore, this conference comes as the conclusion of these five roundtables organized by IP HPS Police Academy of Montenegro and supported by the OSCE Mission in Montenegro. 


Otherwise, Kosovo Academy for Public Safety, continuously in strengthening of regional cooperation, on March 2, 2016 signed a cooperation agreement with the Public Institution - Higher Professional School Police Academy in Danilovgrad. Based on the aforementioned arrangement, KAPS, supported by officers of the Kosovo Police (KP), participated in four of the five roundtables, which were aimed the improving the curriculum of Police education in the  Police Academy of Montenegro in field of police powers and self-defence, criminology, firearms and border control as well as the traffic safety.
