Started the training “ Disaster Victim Identification”

Vushtrri, 03 March 2015- Today, at  Kosovo Academy for Public Safety started the training “ Disaster Victim Identification”, supported by IPA project “ Strengthening and Modernization of Forensic Services in Kosovo”.  In this training are totally 42 officials from the Primeminister’s Office for Invetigation of Air Accidents, Deaprtment of Forensic Medicine, the Kosovo Police, Kosovo Red Cross, OSCE and participants from Kosovo Academy for Public Safety (KAPS).

In the opening of this training have attended the Director General of the Academy Mr. Ismajl Smakiqi, Director of the Department of Forensic Medicine Mr. Arsim Gerxhaliu,  Dr. Sinikka Salo from the Project Office and Professor Helena Ranta, from  University of  Helsinki.

 

Dr. Sinikka Salo from IPA project office said that Kosovo has passed the difficult stages for capacity building in the field of Forensic Medicine. '' The European Union supports Law Enforcement Agencies and this support will be continued in the future '' said Salo.

 

Director of Department of Forensic Medicine Mr.Arsim Gërxhaliu in his speech indicated the difficulties through which the Department of Forensic Medicine of Kosovo has been passed, especially in the early stages after the war, with what  the experts of this  department had to deal during their field work.

Director General of the Academy Mr. Ismail Smakiqi thanked the participants of this training as well as lecturers from the University of Helsinki. Also he emphasized that such trainings help the country in building and capacity development, which is very important for security institutions.

 

The purpose of this training is to set the basis for establishing the team with representatives of the competent institutions to identify disaster victims in a different cases that may occur in the country. Lecturers of this training will be professors from the University of Helsinki. The first lecture was held by well-known expert Professor Helena Ranta from the University of Helsinki.
