In KCPSED is held Mini Olympiad for persons with disabilities

Vushtrri, 20 June '11 – At the Center for Public Safety, Education and Development (KCPSED) for the seventh time is held the Mini Olympiad for persons with disabilities which is organized by OPFAKOS supported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, KCPSED and OSCE. This mini Olympiad attended by around 450 persons with disabilities. At the official opening of Mini Olympiad were present KCPSED Executive Chief, Sheremet Ahmeti, deputy OSCE ambassador Joseph Edward and KFOR representatives.

KCPSED Executive Chief, Sheremet Ahmeti said that it is an honor and pleasure to do together the opening of this mini Olympiad of the Organization of Parents of Children with Disabilities in the Center for Public Safety, Education and Development

"The treatment, care and access to persons with disabilities are some of the key factors that determine the value and built system into specific companies and generally in global aspects," said Ahmeti. He said that taking into consideration that during the last few decades our country has gone through difficult social and political phases, this with no doubt has affected that the perception and treatment for this very important category in our society is not as it should be. The Executive Chief Mr.Ahmeti said the gradual consolidation of democratic institutions of our country, the situation of persons with disabilities in Kosovo has shown continued progress, which shows both just and rational direction of the Government, civil society and all other mechanisms in this aspect. He said that for seven years the Center is host of mini Olympiad for children with disabilities and their parents, where for two days they compete in various sporting disciplines and enjoy being associated with one another. It at the same time presents the best connecting bridge between the citizens on the one hand, and on the other side of police, firefighters, customs officer or Correctional who actually serve the citizen

Deputy Chief of OSCE Mission in Kosovo has welcomed the participants saying that the OSCE is ready to continuously support the Center for Public Safety, Education and Development in the implementation of training and other activities.
"The OSCE does not support only the training of persons of public safety, but as well these most sensitive persons in our society," said Joseph. He said that democratic institutions in Kosovo need to know not only for people with disabilities but also for their skills.

OPFAKOS-Chairman - Gani Mehmeti has welcomed attendees and thanked for their continuous support that the OSCE and KCPSED is making to persons with disabilities in carrying out their activities. In his speech Mehmeti said that is very important that these people have found support from KCPSED and OSCE. "This support that is being done now is a very good example which should be followed," said Mehmeti




Mehmeti has expressed the wish that this cooperation to be continued in the future. "For seven years we find great support from the Center for Public Safety, Education and Development. We are very grateful to donors who have supported this mini Olympiad as OSCE MIA KCPSED'' said Mehmeti.
After the official opening, participants have continued competitions in different sports activities like jogging with wheelchairs, basketball, handball, goal-ball, dart, shooting etc..
At the end of this event, which lasted two days the winning participants of mini Olympiad competition were awarded medals, certificates and acknowledgments
